    Cause or effect?

In public opinion the technology industry people are considered as hairy, not-so-clean humans, wearing T-shirts and jeans, who drink coffee for breakfast, eat pizza for lunch, and chips for dinner*. Is it so because such people are attracted by IT industry or because IT industry produces/promotes such people?

In public opinion politicians are considered liars. Is it so because liars are meant to be politicians or because if one becomes a politician he or she has to lie?

The general question is: are you a cause of your character or an effect of your interactions with the society? I think both, but the society can’t deny your character. The effect can’t deny your cause. It will eventually come up.

What do you think about it?

*) I can assure you it is not 100% true. We do not eat chips for dinner… ;-)

    Fixing The World

Ones hobby is playing computer games. Others like watching TV, shopping, studying ancient history, reading books, playing with kids or dog, having fun with their friends, or maybe traveling. I’m kinda different. I like fixing things.

I’m aware I don’t have very high manual dexterity, but not every broken thing requires it. Beside fixing things broken physically I’m also very fond of fixing states – moving from the state of disorder into the ordered one, like cleaning my house, ironing, washing, or arranging emails in my computer.

Lot of activities at my work are also related to fixing. I fix bugs in software. I fix processes by pointing flaws and stressing good solutions. Thanks to the IT industry fast paced improvement, the fixing process is inevitable and really deserved. I like it so I’m good in it.

There is also another subcategory which is backed by my interest in psychology and psychiatry – fixing people. I know it’s really hard to do without a lot of experience, but I’m pretty sure at some point of time I’ll be able to do it right. I think it’s the most exciting as we are really complex to fix! Think of endless times you asked someone to stop doing something and he didn’t listen to you. Think of small children being so frustrating, your boss who thinks you are a moron, homeless, prisoners, or sick people. They all are broken and needs some guidance to either fix their behavior to adhere to common standards like law or to become healthy, learn your needs, etc.

In conclusion if you ever dreamt of being a famous inventor, I believe you can stop now and start fixing the world around you. There are plenty of work to be done, and, trust me, it can become really pleasing!!

PS) Writing this while listening to one of my favorite songs: Fix You by Coldplay. :-))
