What really matters
That’s a 5th or 6th attempt to write this post. I already had it written in 50% or so, but I thought I was missing the point, so that’s another try.
Here are some things that people (especially upper-wanna-be and upper class) seems to care about:
- Nice dresses,
- Extraordinary vacations,
- Newest electronic gadgets,
- Shiny new car replaced each year or two,
- House in a luxury part of the city/country.
For me that’s a crap. People do care about these things because they want to look better in others’ eyes. Why? Simply because in a modern world if you have money it’s the easiest way to gain other’s respect. Large companies already figured that out and they are selling us a following picture: having a better … makes you a better person. Although that’s a lie people don’t care about it. Again, why? After spending countless hours at work these are the only things you can do (and you have time for) to feel better. It’s an artificial need created to spoil us, to make us thing we really need them.
So what really matters? Something you cannot buy and cannot sell. Something what is really pleasurable and you won’t find it in a store or a computer: a genuine human to human interaction like friendship, love, a smile, a kiss, a hug, a pat on a back, a “thank you”, or understanding in others’ eyes. These are real and invaluable.
So what really, really matters? People do.
